The UK’s largest whisky only specialist, the Whiskey Shop, has been around since 1992 and, to date, has some 22 boutiques throughout Scotland and England. However, just last year, they decided to go a bit farther afield with their first non-UK store situated in the gourmet-lovers mecca of the Place Madeleine in Paris.
Their latest boutique is not only beautiful but boasts three different specialized areas. The main shop has over 300 references of whiskey overseen by knowledgeable staff. This is a nice option for treating yourself to a luxury purchase under the guidance of their whisky specialists. Hidden just behind the main shop is the Angle’s Room, where they host free tastings, master classes and popup events like a celebration of Robert Burns or whiskies of the world. Keep tabs on these events through their Facebook page. Upstairs is a stunning sitting room for private tastings that features mainly Johnnie Walker special collections or limited editions found only at the shop (and in some cases at very distant duty free shops).
Shop exclusives begin with affordable options like the €29 Old Malt Cask Blair Athol 12 Year Old and carry on through to the more extravagant items like the €2,250 Port Ellen 5 Year Platinum Old & Rare. More mid-range exclusive editions include the €460 Johnnie Walker Blue Label Willow The Casks Edition (pictured below) or the limited edition Paris Box Blue Label at €225 (which would make a nice gift from Paris for a whisky lover.)
On 7 April, they will be holding a mini-salon to celebrate their 1 year anniversary. Tickets are €7 and includes tastings of new products, show exclusives and not to be missed big names plus a souvenir whisky glass.
